To top off a great long weekend with the family, I had an experience that leaves me swelling with fatherly pride:
I taught my son how to pee on a tree.
I'm still glowing. A little later, though, I think he was just showing off. He had to go while we were driving home and there wasn't a gas station in sight, so he peed on the side of the highway from the car... all the while asking about the semi-trucks passing by our parked vehicle.
Potty training is great.

New Toy on the Way
So I finally got around to ordering the second part of my birthday present (the first part being a 4GB RAM upgrade for the Macbook). A Buffalo Linkstation Live. This network-attached storage device will serve a few functions on the home network. Its primary function will be as a backup device for all the different computers on the network. It'll also serve as a printer/scanner server for my HP All-In-One device. This should allow any computer on the network to print to it (via CUPS) and any computer to use its scanner (via SANE). I'm also looking to installing a bittorrent web client on it (phpTorrent maybe?) and an iTunes/DAAP server (probably Firefly). Of course very little of this comes with the default Buffalo firmware.. so it's time to get hacking. Stay tuned to this space for progress information.

DST == AOK
I hate daylight savings time. I still don't quite understand why it's done. I really thought the state of Indiana finally had one good idea when they ignored it. Alas, they've succumbed.
This year, though, DST has had a helpful side effect. For the last few weeks Aidan has been waking up way too early (usually around 5:45AM). This was workable on weekdays since he could just join me for breakfast. On weekends it just sucked. With DST in full effect now, his wake-up time is much less insane.. at least for the next few weeks. Hey, I'll take any victories I can no matter how short-lived.

Hulu: Not Bad
So, thanks to Kris (now a member of the GE empire), I got an invite to Hulu. For quite awhile I didn't really look there all that much, but now that we're thinking about getting rid of our cable, I started looking into alternate methods to watch what few shows we want to. I gotta say, for Fox or NBC shows, Hulu is great. I've been keeping up with Terminator through Hulu. I did set it to record on my DVR, but it seems that they change the name of the show every couple weeks, so my dumb Scientific Atlanta DVR keeps missing it. Last night I watched the Knight Rider TV movie that was on NBC last weekend. Since I didn't expect much out of it after reading comments on it over at Autoblog, it was actually kind of fun. Give it a looksie:
